Frequently Asked Questions - click on a question to show our answer.
Do your decks come with a warranty?
Finest Timbers offer a 15 Year Warranty with all of our timber decking. We are committed to the design and production of high
quality decking. We are confident our deck installations will provide the deck owner with a deck having a long and serviceable
life. This warranty does not affect your statutory rights as a customer.
If during 15 years from the date of installation, the deck proves to be defective through faulty workmanship or materials,
The Company will repair or replace free of charge.
How can you identify a high quality deck board?
You can tell by the density of the grain, for instance. Scandinavian trees are very slow grown and are much stronger as opposed
to Irish trees.
How sturdy are your decks?
We have our joists laid every foot nearly so you could have a disco on it and you wouldn’t feel it move. We don’t take any shortcuts.
Are your decks pressure treated?
They are pressure impregnated with tanelith - a process that has been used to preserve wood for over a hundred years.
Do I need to paint my deck to protect it?
It is not necessary to apply preservative treatments, it is therefore your personal choice. If you do decide to;
Wait at least a year until the deck has turned silver as not to mix the oil with the pressure treatment.
Use a Ronseal decking oil as it uses a micro porous solution and soaks into the wood.
Never use a wood stain as stains peel due to the sun.
How do I clean my deck?
Sweep your Deck!
Occasional sweeping with a stiff broom will normally be adequate for most decks to remove dirt, dead leaves.
It will also reduce any risk of slipperiness developing from surface growth, engrained dirt.
Annual cleaning is required to thoroughly clean the deck surface.
This is best achieved with a power washer.
Will weeds or grass grow up through the deck?
They won't, because we lay down a landscape fabric that keeps them from growing.
Will the fixings used rust?
No, because we only use Galvanised or Stainless Steel fixings.
Will my deck be level even if the ground underneath isn’t?
Yes, it will be level on the surface.
Will concrete be used to support my deck?
Only for raised decks normally but if the customer requests it, we will gladly lay concrete to support the posts.
Health and Safety
Health and safety is a major factor for us. All installation crews have Safe Pass and use all necessary safety training and
personal protection equipment. We have full public and employer’s liability insurance.
Will rainwater sit against the house or wall?
No because there would be a barely noticeable gap between the wall and deck and the surface of the deck would slope a few
millimetres away from the house over the course of the whole deck so it’s not noticeable.
How can I get more information?
A copy of our Insurance Certificate and Health and Safety Statement is available on request.
